Jay Nichols - Hearing Professional in Greenville, NC

Jay Nichols is the owner/hearing aid specialist of A1 Affordable Hearing in Winterville and Washington, NC. He has been working in the industry for ten years and has owned A1 Affordable Hearing for three years . Jay entered the hearing industry because of his desire to help the hearing impaired enjoy a better quality of life. He enjoys all aspects of this job, from educating the patient about hearing loss, fitting to make sure the patient is getting the right device, servicing these devices, and helping the patient with continuous counseling throughout the process. His mission is to improve lives of people with hearing loss offering them the best solution at an affordable price with continuous service and counseling.

 

Jay was born in Oceanside, CA to a military family. They moved to Greenville in 1959 and have lived and worked in this community for 49 years. Jay has a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University (ECU) in Business Administration with a double major in Marketing and Management minoring in Finance and Industrial Technology with a concentration in Electronics.

He is a member of the International Hearing Society which advocates and supports the highest standard of professional competency, business integrity and excellence in serving the hearing impaired. He also completed the Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT) training program provided by the Hearing Loss Association of America at Gallaudet University Rehabilitation Engineering and Research Center on Hearing Enhancement in Denver, Colorado.

 

In addition to his profession, Jay enjoys collecting antique hearing aids, playing guitar and singing at local venues. He is a board member of the Special Olympics in Beaufort and Hyde counties and the sound engineer at his church.  He also founded the ECU radio station WZMB in 1982 and was a professional dog trainer at the American Canine Academy where he helped introduce certified therapy dogs to North Carolina.
